Passport Application Online www.passportindia.gov.in is available through the official portal of Passport service i.e. Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). For issue of fresh passport and reissue of passport, you need to fill the application form online via e-Form Submission (preferred) or via Online Form Submission. Apart from this applicant can submit the application form directly in the respective CPO/ passport office / Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/ District Passport Cell (DPC)/ Speed post centres.

With online services available, making a passport application is an easy task. Moreover, the Indian government also allows applicants to track their passport application real-time.

The Online Appointment system has been introduced to ensure avoiding congestion at the Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and cutting down the waiting time for applicants. Appointment date/time will be automatically allotted by the system as per the availability of appointment slots at the desired PSK.

You can apply for a passport online at the official Passport Seva website. The Ministry of External Affairs currently processes all passport applications online, so if you wish to renew or apply for a new passport, you’ll have to go via the online application process.

How to Apply for a Passport Online?

Candidates who wants to apply for a passport online, they needs to follow the following steps.

Passport Seva log-in

  1. First visit the official website of Passport Seva & Click on the ‘APPLY’ section.
  2. If you are an existing user, you can login using the user ID and password.
  3. If you are a first-time user, you will have to register and create an account. Follow the steps below to register:
  4. Click on ‘Register Now’ by clicking on this link.
  5. Enter the login ID & password. Enter the captcha code and click on ‘Register’.

Filling the Application Form

Filling in the application form can be done online or offline. To fill in the application form offline, follow the steps given below:

  1. First Click on the link provided to download the application form in soft copy.
  2. A link to an electronic copy of the following forms will be displayed.
  3. Download the relevant form based on your application type:
    • Fresh/reissue
    • Police Clearance Certificate
    • Diplomatic/Official
    • Identity Certificate
  4. After that Fill in the application e-form and click on the ‘Upload e-form’ link.
  5. and last Upload the filled-in application form.

Online Application Form Submit

  1. You can also partially fill-in the form and complete the process at a later date. It is advisable to check the form once before submitting it.
  2. Schedule, Pay & Book the appointment
  3. After filling in and submitting the form, you will have to schedule an appointment at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or relevant passport authority.

How to Submit Application form for Passport

  1. First Go to the ‘Applicant Home’ page & click on the ‘View Saved/Submitted Applications’.
  2. After that submitted application form details will be displayed.
  3. Choose the ARN of the form you have submitted.
  4. Click on ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ option from the ones provided.
  5. Next, choose the mode of payment from among the two provided, viz. Online payment and Challan payment.
    • Note: If paying for tatkaal appointments, the online fee is the same as a regular passport fee.
    • The balance amount is to be paid at the PSK on the appointment date.
    • If you are paying online, you can move on to booking the appointment immediately.
    • If you choose to pay through challan, you will have to do the following:
      • Take the challan to an SBI branch and pay the required amount in cash.
      • (Note: This can be done only after 3 hours of challan generation, which is valid for 85 days.)
      • Next, collect a copy of the challan from the receiving bank personnel.
      • The bank takes 2 days to verify the ARN details provided on the challan.
      • Successful payment of the fees will be displayed on the website post-verification where the applicant can ‘track the payment status’.
      • An email update is also sent.

How to Scheduling the appointment for Passport

Follow the below mentioned steps to schedule an appointment:

  1. First of all On the ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ page, select the PSK of your choice.
  2. Choose a convenient slot from the available dates mentioned. There, the applicant is required to select a PSK based on the available date.
  3. Confirm your appointment slot by entering the CAPTCHA code.
  4. Next, select ‘Pay and Book the Appointment’
  5. Application details such as ARN, name, type of application, the amount that needs to be paid, contact number, and the appointment date will be displayed.
  6. If you have chosen to pay online, you will be redirected to the payment gateway.
  7. On successful completion of payment, you will receive confirmation of the appointment and an appointment number.
  8. An SMS with the details will also be sent.
  9. Print a copy of the application receipt.
  10. All PSKs now also accept the SMS for appointment proof.
  11. In case, multiple payments are made for the same appointment/application/ARN, the excess amount will be refunded by the RPO.
  12. The passport appointment can be rescheduled twice within a year from the date of the original appointment.
  13. However if you miss the appointment, you can’t reschedule the appointment.

Fees structure for Passport www.passportindia.gov.in

  1. If the Candidates applying for Tatkaal Passport service then the need to pay only the fee as applicable under the Normal service while making Online Payment. The Tatkaal fee is to be paid in addition to the application fee mentioned below.
  2. The balance fee as applicable for Tatkaal will be payable in cash at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK)/Passport Office, once Tatkaal application is accepted by Officials.
  3. Online Payment will remain valid for one year from the first appointment date.
  4. If the application for a new passport is made the following payment of fees needs to be paid.
  5. ATM facility is available in PSKs for all Bank Cards.

How to Track Application Status of Passport online

  1. First Visit the official passport website and select the ‘Track Your Application Status’ tab.
  2. Then From the drop-down menu, select the type of application from among the options listed.
  3. Enter the 15-digit file number and your date of birth in the format prescribed and click on ‘Track Status’.
  4. The current status of your application will be displayed onscreen.

To check the passport status by SMS you need to go through following steps :
  1. Go to your mobile SMS option.
  2. Write the message in proper format. The Format is MRP (Space) EID Number. …
  3. Send the message to 6969 number (Recipient Number).
  4. On the Return SMS, you will get the notification of the passport status.

  1. Photo passbook of running bank account in any public sector bank, private sector bank and regional rural banks
  2. A voter ID card
  3. Aadhaar card
  4. Electricity bill
  5. Rent agreement
  6. Driving license
  7. PAN card
  8. Landline or postpaid mobile bill
  9. Proof of gas connection
  10. Spouse’s passport copy (First and last page of the passport that includes the details of the family and mentions applicants name as the spouse of the passport holder)
  11. Certificate from employer of reputed companies on letterhead.
  12. Income Tax assessment order
  13. School leaving certificate
  14. Birth certificate issued by the Municipal Corporation
  15. Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Corporations/Companies having the DOB of the holder of the insurance policy.

  1. Parents original and self-attested copies of the passport should be carried
  2. Proof of current address in the parent’s name
  3. Photo passbook of running bank account in any public sector bank, private sector bank and regional rural banks
  4. Birth certificate
  5. Policy Bond issued by the Public Life Insurance Corporations/Companies having the DOB of the holder of the insurance policy
  6. Aadhaar card or e-Aadhaar
  7. PAN Card
  8. School leaving certificate/ Secondary school leaving certificate
