ASHA acts as an intermediary between the rural population and the health center. One ASHA per 1500 population in non-tribal areas and one ASHA per 1000 population in tribal areas. In order to convince the people of rural areas about the importance of hygiene, vaccination, they are trained to provide basic treatment for fever, burns and minor injuries. Also distribution of other pills like DOTS, Folic Acid and Chloroquin are done through ASHA. Similarly, in case of serious health conditions, ASHA is also responsible for informing the concerned system. Even though rural ASHAs are working on a volunteer basis, provision is made for them to be paid incentive pay\/allowances for their performance.
